Nail Fungus and Treatment
Often nail fungus most commonly affect the elderly, but this problem can also affect younger people. There are many factors of how a person can catch a nail fungus, either in a beauty salon, walking barefoot in areas totally unknown or in the comfort of home, or many times to have a weak immune system makes us infected with a fungus. The severity of the disease varies from person to person. Some noticed a small black dot on the same nail, while others will experience some pain or discomfort.
Fortunately for all these people there are different ways to deal with such problems.
First and foremost we have to do is to cut the infected nail. Before using any drug in the infected nail, use a sharp cutter and carefully treat the entire area, remember that this part is very sensitive so it is important not to touch any part too swollen or uncomfortable. Then file down the bullets with the same care with which we cut the nail.
Once cut the nail, discard or disinfect the clipper and nail file. Nail infections are contagious. Therefore, it is best to sterilize or dispose of both the clip as the file, and all remaining pieces of nails as well. It is critical thoroughly clean all these factors and remember that nail fungus is very contagious and can spread rapidly to other fingers.
Once cut, apply an antifungal nail polish. Use this nail polish at the first sign of infection. The first signs are a small dark spot, yellowing of the nails themselves or a change in the way of them.
Use daily some anti-fungal cream. These creams are effective and usually cure the infection in six weeks. The creams are ideal for long infections accompanied by some pain.
If the nail fungus does not respond to topical creams you may need a prescription. See your family doctor or dermatologist and ask about treatment options. Several prescription drugs can treat nail fungus.
