Factors That Cause Acne

cause acne

Over time I noticed that there is a group of people who have little or no care of their skin and yet have never experienced acne or other skin condition. On the other hand, some people take care of their skin but religion still have an ongoing battle with acne. From the above observation it is clear that some people are prone to acne, while some others are not.

So what makes a person prone to acne? Thus the main factors contributing to the formation of acne are:

1. Sebaceous gland activity
2. Bacteria
3. Breakdown of the skin cells

A combination of these factors leads to the formation of acne. So lets have a closer look at these factors;

factor cause acne

Sebaceous gland activity
The sebaceous glands secrete oil that lubricates the skin surface. Acne-prone individuals are known to have more reactive sebaceous glands that produce excess oil that is required therefore blocking the pores. Excess oil remains in the pore, blocking the sebaceous duct and creating a blockage in the follicle.

Research has also shown that the oil secreted by glands of acne-prone individuals is different in chemical composition that acne is not prone individuals. Acne in people prone to the composition of its oil supports the growth of bacteria that cause acne.

Bacteria
Certain types of bacteria resident in the skin. P. acnes is found in most skin in acne, but people susceptible to P. acnes grows uncontrollably. The growth of P. acnes is assisted by the anaerobic conditions created by the plug of dead cells and oils within the pores of the skin. The bacteria digest the oil inside the pores and produces a waste product. This waste product irritates the walls of the pores that cause inflammation.

Breakdown of the skin cells
Normally the skin sheds dead skin cells, the dead skin cells fall away and are replaced by new ones. Acne prone skin is uneven process in which five times more skin cells when comparing with normal skin.

Acne prone skin produces more dead skin cells is normal. These cells remain trapped inside the follicle resulting in the formation of acne.
